Space Jockey from Alien |
I'm sure that will come as a surprise to the few who are still clinging to the belief that the method is just a gimmick. (Just because some money grabbing suits at movie studios treated it that way, doesn’t make it so, anymore than it did for colour, sound or widescreen)
So back to Prometheus then. It’s pretty much been confirmed that there’s an android or robot of some kind in the film; Sir Scott actually replied “There may be two” when asked the question. There is a connect to the Alien movie(s) but what that is remains as cryptic as ever and Prometheus may have us all looking for clues throughout the movie as we were told “you’ll hopefully understand what I mean in the last few minutes of the movie” ; and that was meant to clarify the puzzling comment that an unanswered question from the first movie (Which he was surprised never got dealt with in any of the sequels AND that most people are assuming means the “Space Jackey” alien Elephant thing from his Alien movie; even though that was dealt with in the acclaimed Dark Horse comic book series) “...could be the centrepiece of what we’ve just completed. That said, that is the only DNA from the first Alien.”

At first the above quote seems quite paradoxical, seeming to suggest that the film has at its core something big from the first Alien movie, bu then suggesting that there’s only one link. But on a second look it most likely means that they have just finished filming a section of the movie that ties in with something, this elusive question, from the first Alien movie, but that the whole of the rest of the film deals with something else. [Perhaps a little like Iron Man II, wherein whilst S.H.I.E.L.D are a presence in the entire movie (and I fail to see why they shouldn’t be, if they didn’t exist then their role would surely have been filled by the F.B.I or C.I.A or NSA yes?) their function is to help Tony find himself a cure and get Iron Man working at 100%, in other words to drive the plot of that story forward. Once the main stories are resolved , at the end we then get to see how the whole MCU ties together, with The Avengers Initiative dossiers and Nick Furies video wall detailing Hulk sightings, Thor’s Hammer crash, The Black Panther’s homeland in Africa and what can only be Namor, The Sub Mariner’s, home of Atlantis in the middle of the Atlantic. There may be visual cues and other similarities to Alien (many design elements are very Gigeresque apparently, but the real link won’t be there until the end.]
Space Jockey race as dealt with in the original Dark Horse comic's run |
Can we just get a trailer already pleas? Preferably one with Charlize Theron’s naked press ups included (Yeah I said it!) Whilst Fox are aiming for the film to be a PG-13 (UK 2A) Scott confirmed that he is keeping is options open on that score and whilst he has a duty to Fox, he always keeps both options open. Fox, for the love of God NO, not a PG-13 film please, it seems limiting and a million miles away from Sir Ridley Scott’s Alien and James Cameron’s Aliens, even if it isn’t a prequel.
H. R.Giger's Alien Xenomorph isn't expected to make an appearance. |
