Lionsgate have released a poster and countdown clock for the eagerly awaited adaptation of The Hunger Games novels. But the poster isn’t you’re ordinary run of the mill picture. It’s a flaming motion poster, featuring a Mockingjay badge. The poster also bears the tagline,
“May the odds be ever in your favor.”  ,
Which is a line readers of the books will be very familiar with.

I’ve only recently started reading these books myself, so I can’t go into too much detail about the plot, but the basic outline is...

To punish citizens for an early rebellion, the rulers require each district to provide one girl and one boy, 24 in all, to fight like gladiators in a futuristic arena. The event is broadcast like reality TV, and the winner returns with wealth for his or her district.

The film is being written and directed by Gary Ross, writer director of Pleasentville and Seabiscuit. There’s a large cast building up including Jennifer Lawrence (X-Men: First Class) as Katiniss Everdeen; Josh Hutcherson (Journey to The Centre of The Earth) as Peeta Mellark; Liam Hemsworth, younger brother of Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth,  (The Last Song) as Gale Hawthorne (yes Gale is a woman’s name but hey ho); Elizabeth Banks (30 Rock) as Effie Trinket; Woody Harrelson (Zombieland) as Haymitch Abernathy; Donald Sutherland as  President Snow; Lenny Kravitz as Cinna and Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman. There’s plenty ore there too.

The film is hoping to catch on as there are three books that are being written as four films. Of course all of that depends on whether this Running Man, Series 7 like tale catches on at cinemas around the world. The books are written by Suzanne Collins and are worth a look (from what I’ve read so far any way)
