Tintin trailer; See How Far Adventure Will Take You!

Earlier today we got our first full trailer for the highly anticipated (Outside America at least) Spielberg & Jackson Tintin movie. After the international and American teasers, the game footage and random pics we’ve got the real deal; and it’s everything a Tintin fan could have hoped for. Well except for not hearing Haddock say Blistering Barnacles!

I’m trying to look at the trailer objectively, from the point of view of someone who has never read Tintin, or even really heard of him, but given that my sister and I grew up emptying our local library of every Tintin book they had a 100 times over I’m finding it difficult. Surely there’s enough humour and action and mystery to entice even the staunchest of non believers? There’s a certain degree to which the film practically sells itself. Tintin has been a very popular character all over the world (Again, curiously, except for in America?) and a film by Spielberg & Jackson, written by Steven Moffat Edgar Wright & Joe Cornish certainly has both class & geek cred behind it. (Steven Moffat has written acclaimed episodes of Sherlock & Dr. Who; Edgar writer had directed (and more) Spaced, Shaun of The Dead, Hot Fuzz & Scott Pilgrim) whilst Joe Cornish is famed for writing the Adam & Joe show, as well as writing and directing this year’s Attack The Block.)

The only question is can this films finally get audiences to fully embrace motion capture animation in a way that they haven’t truly done as yet. The Polar Express, Beowulf, Disney’s A Christmas Carol are all moderate successes (I’m a big fan of Beowulf, particularly its use of 3D)but none have been huge breakout hits. Perhaps this film will truly break that mould; I have to say, as a fan of the books, I like the animation here.

You’re about to walk into a whole mess of danger...
