(edited at HP7.221:15with FINAL figures. Other films to be updated later)
Well as two weeks ago was all about TF3, this weekend was all about the boy wizard and his friends. Numerous records were smashed up worse than Hogwarts after a Death Eater attack. The North American, International and Worldwide opening records all went bye bye. The Dark Knight’s N. American record of $158.4m was passed as HP7.2 took in $169..2m. That record contained a couple of other records too. Firstly Twilight: Eclipse’s Midnight opening record of $30m was soundly beaten with a $43.5m gross. The $48.6m that HP7.2 took during the ‘normal’ Friday hours, gave the film an opening day total of $92.1, this time taking a record from Twilight: New Moon. (Previous opening day record of $72.7m)

The $481.5m global take passed the previous record of $394m held by Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince. Also passed was the record for biggest international opening ($260.4m); made only a matter of weeks ago by Pirates of the Caribbean 4. HP7.2 grossed $312.3m. It seems likely that the film will live up to moat analysts expectations and join Pirates 4 as the 9th film to ever gross over $1b. The only real question would seem to be how far past that point it can go.

Speaking of the Billion Dollar club, Transformers: Sark of The Moon continues to edge closer o that figure. Despite the onslaught of HP7.2 and the loss of man 3D screens to that film, TF3 still managed a $60m weekend (which also helped it pass the international total of TF2, $434,185,358. Add to that the fact that the film has still to open in China and Japan and the film seems certain to gross over $900m.
