A look at movies, especially films based on books (Yes that includes comics); Opinions, facts, movie charts, production news and, when possible a look at the movies VS their source material. I may also champion books I've read that really should be movies. I've also used it to display the unedited versions of my blogs for SyFy; (The sci-fi channel UK website.)Feel free to let me know about any stories that you think deserve the big screen treatment.

Here are a couple of good quality shots of Cavill a Superman. There’s a lot more detail of costume, again looking more akin to the new costume than most, or any, of the costumes from earlier comics, films or TV shows. You’re either OK with that (as I am) or it’s the need of the world as you know it!
What is clear is that Cavill has been spending a lot of time at the gym with Chris Hemsworth. I’m starting to take bets on who’d win an arm wrestling match between the two of them right now.
Here’s an interesting trailer; it actually almost works as a summary of what feels like the whole film. So even though this is the first trailer for the movie I’m going to caution that if you watch it you may feel like much of the plot is given away. Of course, given the nature of the film, there may be much more going on than even this trailer suggests, but it feels like deaths,, secrets and a twist that surely has to be a third act thing are all given away here?
Synopsis...
“In THE DOUBLE, the mysterious murder of a US senator bearing the distinctive trademark of the legendary Soviet assassin "Cassius," forces Paul Shepherdson (Richard Gere), a retired CIA operative, to team with rookie FBI agent, Ben Geary (Topher Grace), to solve the crime. Having spent his career chasing Cassius, Shepherdson is convinced his nemesis is long dead, but is pushed to take on the case by his former supervisor, Tom Highland (Martin Sheen). Meanwhile, Agent Geary, who wrote his Master's thesis on Shepherdson's pursuit of the Soviet killer, is certain that Cassius has resurfaced. As Shepherdson and Geary work their way through crimes both past and present, they discover that Cassius may not be the person they always thought him to be, forcing both to re-examine everything and everyone around them.”
The cast includes Richard Gere, Topher Grace, Stana Katic, Stephen Moyer and Martin Sheen. The story has been written by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, who did an excellent job adapting 3:10 to Yuma and a less excellent job adapting Wanted. (Although it is always possible the director made light of their work). Michael Brandt is also the director of this film, his first.
After a run of award winning, award nominated performances in Australian films, Sam Worthington burst onto the international stage with a trio of high profile Hollywood films. Terminator Salvation, Avatar and Clash of The Titans have certainly made sure everyone knows who he is; but before Clash of The Titans 2 hits screens next in spring 2013, Worthington will have been in four lower key films. We’ve had the marriage in trouble drama, with Keira Knightly, ‘Last Night’; January 2012 will see ‘Man on A Ledge’; and the next 6 weeks will see first the ensemble Nazi hunter thriller, ‘The Debt’ were he joins Helen Mirren, CiarĂ¡n Hinds and Tom Wilkinson as well as co-star of this film Jessica Chastain.
So there’s plenty of opportunity for Worthington to show / remind viewers that Clash of The Titans was all down to the generally dire movie and not his acting ability, before the (it surely can’t be worse) sequel arrives.
Synopsis...
“Inspired by true events, this tense and haunting thriller follows Detective Souder (Sam Worthington), a homicide detective in a small Texan town, and his partner, transplanted New York City cop Detective Heigh (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as they track a sadistic serial killer dumping his victims' mutilated bodies in a nearby marsh locals call "The Killing Fields." Though the swampland crime scenes are outside their jurisdiction, Detective Heigh is unable to turn his back on solving the gruesome murders. Despite his partner's warnings, he sets out to investigate the crimes. Before long, the killer changes the game and begins hunting the detectives, teasing them with possible clues at the crime scenes while always remaining one step ahead. When familiar local girl Anne (Chloe Grace Moretz) goes missing, the detectives find themselves racing against time to catch the killer and save the young girl's life.”
Any excuse the watch the increasingly impressive child actress Chloe Grace Moretz is a good thing and she genuinely seems to get better from film to film. (They Eye, Kick Ass, Let Me In). Jessica Chastain is riding high on the success of The help and will also have been seen in The Debt by the time this film comes out. I’ve got a lot of time for Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen, Grey’s Anatomy, The Losers) too so there’s a lot going for this film in terms of the casting.
Well here’s the teaser for The film rabidly anticipated by fans of the books. As the official MTV clip will not play in many countries not the US I’ve put a YouTube embed up as well. The YouTube one is now the official Lionsgate clip, so HD quality.
The very talented Jennifer Lawrence introduces the clip and for those of you who have no idea what this hunger lark is all about... this teaser will do pretty much nothing o help. It’s almost 100% a fan thing. I got that, but it always bothers me a little, not making more of a effort, straight away, to entice people who aren’t already fans. Still she looks the part and I’ve no concerns about her acting ability at all. Also the flying arrow turning into the Mockingjay Jay symbol is pretty cool.
It feels weird putting a spoiler tag on a trailer, but it seems like it’s been happening all summer. The internet age is bringing us more and more trailers and the marketing people seem to care less and less about how much they give away. Sure I have a bit of knowledge about Olivia Wilde’s character, but I would have thought they’d keep some of the details quiet.
Still as this is from the mind of the man who brought us The Truman Show and Gattaca (2 of the better Sc-Fi offerings of the past 15 years or so) I’m looking forward to this film.
“When Will Salas is falsely accused of murder, he must figure out a way to bring down a system where time is money - literally - enabling the wealthy to live forever while the poor, like Will, have to beg, borrow, and steal enough minutes to make it through another day”
Here’s a bunch of clips showcasing some of the not so successful, past relationships of Ally Darling (Faris) and reminding her exactly why they were ex-boyfriends in the first place. The film is based on the best seller, ‘20 times a Lad’, by Karyn Bosnak.
Synopsis...
“Anna Faris is Ally Darling, who after reading a magazine article that leads her to believe she's going to be forever alone, begins a wild search for the best "ex" of her life. Ally's hunky new neighbor Colin (Chris Evans) helps her track down her exes, in exchange for Ally helping Colin avoid his.”
The article in question relates to the number of sexual partners a woman has had and the lower her chances at true happiness get, the higher that number becomes. As you’ve probably guessed she’s at the end of her ‘allowance’ and needs to spend aa lot of time not realising that Chris Evans is her perfect man. Cynicism aside, I’m a big fan of Evans, so I’m giving this one the benefit of the doubt.
