This is the kind of film that you might think sounds all too likely to go down the road of interesting idea, but will be sugary garbage”, until you realise that the film is being made by the director of Dan in Real Life and the screenwriter of What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and About a Boy. It does change the perception of the film and this trailer also helps with this a little, as the colour palette, lighting and even the framing suggest a very different film than a modern, simple Tomb Thumb / Thumbelina update.

Disney’s synopsis...

“Academy Award®–nominated director/writer Peter Hedges (“Dan in Real Life,” What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?”) brings enchantment to the screen with “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” an inspiring, magical story about a happily married couple, Cindy and Jim Green (Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton), who can’t wait to start a family but can only dream about what their child would be like. When young Timothy (CJ Adams) shows up on their doorstep one stormy night, Cindy and Jim—and their small town of Stanleyville—learn that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life’s greatest gifts”

The film stars Jennifer Garner, Joel Edgerton, Dianne Wiest, CJ Adams, Rosemary Dewitt, Ron Livingston, M. Emmet Walsh and Common. It is directed and written by Peter Hedges from a story by Ahmet Zappa.
