Footloose Trailer: The streetdance generation. Cut loose...

Ok depending on your age this will either seem like a coolish twist on the dance movies of recent years, or an abomination straight from the pits of hell! It’s ironic that one of Kevin Bacon’s most iconic roles is being remade in the year that he returns to major movies with X-Men: First Class. The original movie starred Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer and Sarah Jessica Parker and was a massive hit back in 1984. Costing $8m it made $80m in North America alone. It also managed to get TWO Oscar nominations for best song; for Footloose (Kenny Loggins) and Let’s hear it for the Boy (Deniece Williams). The ridiculous iconic Holding Out For A Hero was also part of a soundtrack whose album sold over 9 million copies in the US. (Trailer for the original film, as at the bottom of this piece.)

From the trailer it’s clear that the premise is basically the same. A small town bas public dancing after 5 teens die following, well public dancing, and a new in ton city boy gets on everyone’s nerves dancing. The remake has been written and directed by Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow, Black Snake Moan) and is due out in October.

Now then "Where have all the good men gone and where are all the gods?/ Where's the street-wise Hercules to fight the rising odds?"
