The Three Musketeers TV spot. One for All & all for flying Warships and cannon bombs...

Ok then, with the Miyazaki Airships (literally Air –SHIPS) looking like a Musketeer’s era S.H.I.E.L.D Hellicarrier and ‘Gatling’ cannons, this is not looking like  an extremely faithful  and ‘realistic’ adaptation of the Alexandre Dumas classic; but it sure looks like a fn one. Well if you discount the horrendous Take that video and intro many of us have been subjected to before our late summer cinema viewing.

I’ve lost count of the number of times this story has been adapted, Dogtanian still rules all!, but the fact is that it really is a great story, action, drama, romance, suspense the story even has a moral core. Hopefully they’ve kept enough of the core quality of the story to build their crazy action movie anachronisms around. If not, hey air-(war)ships and Mila Jovovich kicking ass can’t be all bad can it? Plus remember, we can always read the book, even if we don’t like the movie.

Studio words...
“Based on Alexandre Dumas' classic novel comes a big-screen action adventure update of The Three Musketeers, conceived and shot in state-of-the-art 3D.

They are known as Porthos, Athos, and Aramis-three elite warriors who serve the king of France as his best Musketeers. After discovering an evil conspiracy to overthrow the King, the Musketeers come across a young, aspiring hero - D'Artagnan - and take hi under their wing. Together, the four embark onn a dangerous mission to foil the plot that not only threatens the crown, but the future of Europe itself.

The Three Musketeers stars Logan Lerman, Mila Jovovichm Matthew MacFayden, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Mads Mikelson, Gabriela Wilde, James Corden, Juno Temple, Freddie Fox with Orlando Bloom and Christoph Waltz.”

Christophe Waltz, Ray Stevenson and Mila Jovovich seem perfectly cast to me and this fantasy version of the tale shows promise. The cast, setting and classic nature of the story (the source story) should give the film pretty big prospects at the international box office; especially with Paul W. S. Anderson’s “state-of-the-art 3D” Resident Evil: Afterlife (also starring Jovovich) proving such a hit at the same time last year ($236m outside North America). The Three Musketeers as a Fantasy, S.A.S / Seal, best of the best elite fighting force> We'll see...
