I’m not going to waste any time pretending I’m a fan of McG
as a director. None. Not one second. Terminator Salvation was a very poor film;
sure it was poorly written, but the directing highlighted the flaws instead of masking
them. That it is possibly his best film (fans of Charlie’s Angels may disagree)
is not a good sign. So when we’re dealing with aa film like this
you’re probably going to need the likes of Edgar Wight (Sean of The
Dead, Hot Fuzz & Scott Pilgrim) to make it work. McG is no Edgar Wright.
Still Reese Witherspoon is cool, Tom Hardy is the Don and
Chris Pine has proven himself in any number of wildly contrasting roles
(Princess Diaries 2, Smoking Aces, Star Trek) so the film may yet surprise us
all. I certainly wish the leads all the success in the world, just please McG,
do something better.
