The Punisher coming to TV. Fox buys Marvel’s ‘The Punisher’...

Marvel Comics’ character ‘The Punisher has already been the subject of three feature films (See the end for more), but has never really been able to translate his comic book successes to the big screen. Now he’ll try his luck on the small screen. Fox are awaiting a pilot from Marvel and v Ed Bernero  (Once showrunner for Criminal Minds.) (According to Deadline)

But fans hoping for a faithful version of the comics should hold on. According to deadline the Punisher is “an hour-long procedural with a Marvel signature and a new take on one of Marvel’s more iconic characters, Frank Castle, a rising star detective with the NYC Police Department who moonlights as the vigilante Punisher seeking justice for those the system has failed.” which sounds more like a cross between the Forever Knight and Daredevil. Still it will be interesting to see how this show shapes up.

This makes the third of the new wave of Marvel, live action TV shows, although it may actually be the first to make it onscreen. The Incredible Hulk is in the works, with Guillermo del Toro and David Eick; and a spin on the Heroes For Hire comics ‘AKA Jessica Jones’ is also on the way.

For what it’s worth I think having a Hulk TV series at the same tie as we have a Hulk on the big screen in The Avengers and hence tied to all of the other Marvel Studios’ MCU films (Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, Dr. Strange, S.H.I.E.L.D etc. Is a bad, bad, bad idea.

None of the 3 Punisher films are actually Marvel Studios films, they are all licensed prouctions / co-productions.
The Punisher 1989...
Punisher movie number 1. Dolph Lungdren
The Punisher 2004...
Punisher movie number 2. Tom Jane...

The Punisher War Zone 2008...
Punisher movie number 3. Ray Stevenson
