The spotlight has certainly been turned up on this film
following events that took place after it began production. Henry Cavell’s
casting as Superman in the upcoming Man of Steel, and director Tarsem Singh’s
helming of Snow White film number one (AKA the pretty looking one that isn’t
Snow White & The Huntsman).
Snow White & The Huntsman - Snow white (Untitled Lilly Collins film) – (Snow White &) The Order of The Seven! A look at the three Snow White movies on the way & their directors work so far...
I’ve been impressed with Henry Cavill in The Tudors. If you missed it I really do recommend giving it a watch, it was quality television. There was genuine character growth and a Cavill displayed great range.
Synopsis...
“Visionary director Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall) and
producers Gianni Nunnari (300), Mark Canton (300) and Ryan Kavanaugh (The
Fighter) unleash an epic tale of treachery, vengeance and destiny in Immortals,
a stylish and spectacular 3-D adventure. As a power-mad king razes ancient
Greece in search of a legendary weapon, a heroic young villager rises up
against him in a thrilling quest as timeless as it is powerful.
The brutal and bloodthirsty King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) and
his murderous Heraklion army are rampaging across Greece in search of the long
lost Bow of Epirus. With the invincible Bow, the king will be able to overthrow
the Gods of Olympus and become the undisputed master of his world. With
ruthless efficiency, Hyperion and his legions destroy everything in their wake,
and it seems nothing will stop the evil king’s mission.
As village after village is obliterated, a stonemason named
Theseus (Henry Cavill) vows to avenge the death of his mother in one of
Hyperion’s raids. When Theseus meets the Sybelline Oracle, Phaedra (Freida
Pinto), her disturbing visions of the young man’s future convince her that he
is the key to stopping the destruction. With her help, Theseus assembles a
small band of followers and embraces his destiny in a final desperate battle
for the future of humanity.”
I'm still waiting to be convinced by Immortals though. It has the baggage of Tarsem still seeming to be far more style than substance and that isn't helped by the continued studio look of this film, without there feeling like there’s a reason for it to look this way. With Sin City, 300, The Warriors’ Way, there was a reason for the way the films were staged, for how they looked and the space they inhabited. I'm sure there will be one here, but so far it really hasn't jumped out at me in the trailers, or this featurette.
Here we go...
Trailer 2...
