You have to go way back to a time between X2 & X-Men 3
to think about how long this big screen update of the Glen A Larson’s 1970s TV
show has been in the news. At one point there seemed a genuine probability that
there would be a big budget movie out at the same time that the TV series was
riding a wave of critical acclaim on the small screen. Strangest of all the two
would have been completely unrelated.
According to Deadline.com John Orloff is about to be
confirmed as the writer for Battlestar Galactica. Orloff’s most recent work is
about to hit cinemas: Anonymous, the Roland Emmerich-directed film was written and
Executively produced by him. His work also includes some of the writing for
Band of Brothers, which was rewarded with an Emmy nomination.
Apparently he had this to say...
“I have wanted to write this movie since I was 12 years old,
and built a Galactica model from scratch out of balsa wood, cardboard, old
model parts and LEDs,” Orloff told Deadline. “I love BSG, and I would pass on
the job rather than frak it up.”

Despite the terminology it is still expected that this film will
be solely derived from the original series and won’t have any connection to, or
plot elements from, the 2004 remake. If the film can achieve anywhere near the
jump in quality and / or class that the TV show did, we will be in for a treat
indeed. Of course, that said, both shows have big fan bases and a jauntier,
laser-fest, would doubtless also be a hit.
