Luc Besson may have spent a little too much of his recent
time as part of the action film factory, writing / producing team behind recent
popcorn fare like Taken and Colombiana as well as The Transporter - Taxi & District 13 ‘franchises’;
but he’s made a recent, welcome, return to live action directing. Not least
with last year’s excellent ‘The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc Sec’. The
Lady sees Besson tackling a very serious and still important subject matter,
through his common (if not always most obvious) theme, love.
It remains to be seen whether Besson has managed to pay
tribute the Lady herself, whilst presenting an entertaining and worthy film.
Critics haven’t been too kind so far, but audiences (as is the theme in 2011,
if not always) so far seem to like the film much more.
