Tintin: New trailer ups the action...

Just weeks to go for most of us now (Still not sure that they had to wait until Christmas to release this in North America, even if people in the United States remain generally ignorant of the international superstar Tintin) so here’s another trailer to get anyone who is still undecided all worked up for Tintin’s latest, hopefully greatest, big screen adventure. (Global release dates at the end.)

This trailer shows of the action and adventure side of the story, with a decent sprinkling of comedy still there too. I’ve got a good feeling about this film and I think the strength of the fan base, Spielberg & Jackson will make this the first “animated” mo-Cap film to truly breakout.

Mo-Cap animation for the masses...

With the stark exception of Mars Needs Moms (and really how did that ever seem like a good idea in 2011?) they’ve all made reasonable amounts of money, just nowhere near enough relative to the extremely high costs of making the films. Beowulf made about as much as I'd have expected (I was very surprised when I learned how expensive it was) and it was one of my favourite films of 2007. A Christmas Carol was doubtless a disappointment, but it's downfall was much more to do with the fact that it was rubbish (worst Dickens adaptation I've seen for a long, long time) than the Mo-Cap / dead eyes issues. Again the massive cost of the film are what stop its $325m being great business. Tintin hopes to be the highest grossing of these films and will be aiming for the $500m+ of The Smurfs. That said, as long as the film is well liked, a lower number should still guarantee the planned follow up film; this time directed by Peter Jackson & produced by Spielberg.

Synopsis...
“Paramount Pictures and Columbia Pictures Present "The Adventures of Tintin" directed by Steven Spielberg from a screenplay by Steven Moffat and Edgar Wright & Joe Cornish. Starring Jamie Bell ("Billy Elliot," "Defiance") as Tintin, the intrepid young reporter whose relentless pursuit of a good story thrusts him into a world of high adventure, and Daniel Craig ("Quantum of Solace," "Defiance") as the nefarious Red Rackham.”
