More flying, more fighting, more explosions; That’s the simplest way to describe the new trailer for this film. It’s a story, a true story, that I personally find very special and I hope this film does it justice.
The premise, that Black pilots were considered incapable of flying plane, of lacking the capacity to follow orders and worse seems almost laughable today, but it really happened. More to the point when they returned from duty in WWII they had to go down the “coloureds” ramp separately from the white servicemen & women.
Synopsis...
“1944. As the war in Europe continues to take its toll on Allied forces, the Pentagon brass has no recourse but to consider unorthodox options - including the untried and untested African-American pilots of the experimental Tuskegee training program. Just as the young Tuskegee men are on the brink of being shut down and shipped back home, they are given the ultimate chance to show their courage. Against all the odds, with something to prove and everything to lose, these intrepid young airmen take to the skies to fight for their country - and the fate of the free world.”
The film is directed by Anthony Hemingway who is making the jump from TV directing (including Battlestar Galactica, True Blood & Falling Skies) and 2nd unit work. It stars Bryan Cranston, Cuba Gooding Jr. (Who was in the 1995 TV movie The Tuskegee Airmen), Terrence Howard, David Oyelowo, Kevin Phillips, Nate Parker, Daniela Ruah, Michael B. Jordan, Tristan Wilds, Cliff Smith and Rick Otto.
