The Ghostbusters 3 talk has been going on ever since Ghostbusters 2 left the cinema screens of the world in 1989. Thanks to Dan Ackroyd spilling some secrets, we now have a confirmed start date for the film AND some interesting plot points too.
The real big news is that contrary to popular belief, the film’s go – no go is no longer tied to Bill Murray accepting the script. Everyone else is happy with it so the shoot will go ahead, with or without him.
The interview, with Dennis Miller, confirmed that the film will feature the original crew getting a little too old for the busting and recruiting a younger counter part crew. (I did have a fleeting feel of tokenism when Ackroyd stated that the new crew would be 3 guys and a girl; Token female replacing token black guy?) It’s a feeling exacerbated by an apparent absence of any mention of Ernie Hudson when referring to the crew that made the first films such hits.)
Here are some quotes...
"Yes, we will be doing the movie, and hopefully with Mr. Murray. That is our hope. We have an excellent script, but what we have to remember is that Ghostbusters is bigger than any one component. Although Billy was the lead and contributed to it in a massive way, along with myself, Harold (Ramis) and the director and Sigourney (Weaver), the concept is bigger than any one individual role... The promise of Ghostbusters 3 is that we get to hand the equipment and the franchise down to new blood. My character, Ray, is now blind in one eye and can't drive the Cadillac. He's got a bad knee and can't carry the packs. Egon is too large to get into the harness. We need young blood and that's the promise. We're gonna hand it to a new generation. We want to go into production in the spring, I hope."
