The long awaited return of Luc Besson to, fully, live action, English language film making couldn’t be on a more important subject. One of my favourite actresses, Michelle Yeoh is portraying Aung San Suu Kyi, who spent most of the past 21 years in various stages of House arrest. Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991 and a symbol of the pro Democracy movement in Burma for decades, Aung San Suu Kyi is still respected around the world and has received a myriad of honours.
The film deals with her relationship with Michael Aris (played by David Thewlis) and is described as “a true story of love set against political turmoil”
Luc Besson’s last film was the excellent ‘The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc Sec.” He is still trotting out his written / produced global action films, like Taken, with Clombiana coming out this Friday. But film fans will be very pleased to see that he’s directing films on a regular basis again too. Now about that Mathilda movie to follow on from Leon; and a Sixth Element maybe M. Besson?
