Battleship: New trailer arrives as the film is less than 2 weeks away from world cinemas...

Battleship may still seem like one of the stranger adaptations of recent times (Pirates of The Caribbean was based on a theme park ride that fewer people had heard of, especially without Jurassic Park, but at least it had some kind of pre existing plot) but as its global release draws ever closer, it is starting to look like the kind of action packed (daft but fun?)Summer film that tends to do well. Situated 2 weeks after Wrath of The Titans and 2 weeks prior to The Avengers, Battleship will have to earn the bulk of it international coin very, very quickly. (Global release dates are at the end.) Remember Battleship is being released in the international market over a month ahead of North America to avoid getting squeezed between the European Football Championships and the Olympics. With so many other big films doing similar shifts, Battleship has had to mover the furthest. Still it's much smarter than the days when Hollywood used to pretend "soccer" didn't exist, and scratch its head when movie after movie "underperformed" every other summer.

Synopsis...
“Peter Berg (Hancock) produces and directs Battleship, an epic-scaled action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Inspired by Hasbro's classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper's fiancée; Alexander Skarsgård as Hopper's older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper's crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone's superior (and Sam's father), Admiral Shane.
The battle for Earth begins at sea.”
