If you need to be sold on this film, well there may be
little hope left your friend. I mean Sean Penn gets to growl “You’re talking to
God, so you might as well swear to me.”, and he’s not even playing Batman.
Synopsis…
“Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey
Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from
the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and--if he has his way--every wire bet
placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his
own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his
control. It's enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop...
except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John
O'Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try
to tear Cohen's world apart.”
The previous Gangster Squad trailer was notoriously pulled
because it featured gangsters shooting up a cinema; that scene has been
replaced in the movie itself, following the murders at the Dark knight showing
in Aurora. The film boasts an impressive list of top actors; Josh Brolin, Ryan
Gosling, Nick Nolte, Robert Patrick, Michael Peña, Giovanni Ribisi, Anthony
Mackie, Emma Stone and Sean Penn. The film rolls out from the 9th of
January 2013 (see country dates below) and is directed by Ruben Fleischer
(Zombieland.)
