Game of Thrones gets a third season. Winter is still coming...

Excellent news for the growing number of fans of this high class TV show; Following record ratings in its home market (North America) HBO today confirmed that a third series would be produced.
HBO programming president Michael Lombardo had this to say...

“Series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss raised our expectations for the second season...and then surpassed them...We are thrilled by all the viewer and media support we’ve received for the series, and can’t wait to see what Dan and David have in store for next season.”

Whilst the first two series of Game of Thrones have adapted a single book each (A Game of Thrones & A Clash of Kings), the third book, A Sword of Storms, is really 2 volumes so won’t fit into a single season: So at least 2 seasons would be preferred to tell that part of the story. So IF the quality can be maintained and the global audience maintained we could be getting Game of Thrones for a long time yet.

D.B Weiss...
“The plan, if we’re lucky enough to be given the opportunity to see it through, is to use as many seasons as we need to tell the story as a whole, to do justice to George’s entire opus."
