2 weeks today and The Avengers start taking over the world’s
cinemas. So will we have seen 50% of the movie in clips and trailers by then?
The Avengers opens around the world a week earlier than North America
(following a pattern used to a lesser extent by both Thor & Iron Man 2).
However it is part of a much greater trend this year with films from Prometheus
& The Avengers to Battleship opening from a week to over a month ahead of
their North American release dates. This is mostly due to the squeeze on prime
cinema going time put on the global audience by the 1 – 2 hit of the European
Football Championships (Euro 2012) In June and the Lesser distraction (in terms
of Summer dates) of the London 2012 Olympics. Hollywood taking note of football
(soccer if you must, you really mustn’t) is still a relatively new phenomenon,
but they have learned to ignore The World cup (and other high profile
international meetings) at their cost and now factor them into their release
schedules.

Synopsis...
“Marvel Studios presents in association with Paramount
Pictures "Marvel's The Avengers"--the Super Hero team up of a
lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk,
Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy
emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the
international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need
of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the
globe, a daring recruitment effort begins. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris
Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and
Samuel L. Jackson, and directed by Joss Whedon, "Marvel's The
Avengers" is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series "The
Avengers," first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since.
Prepare yourself for an exciting event movie, packed with action and
spectacular special effects, when "Marvel's The Avengers" assemble in
summer 2012. In "Marvel's The Avengers," superheroes team up to pull
the world back from the brink of disaster when an unexpected enemy threatens
global security.”
Maria Hill has very quickly become one of Marvels most
popular characters. Not least of all because she doesn’t take crap from anyone,
not even Nick Fury. Hill is played by Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother)
and this clip was shown on David Letterman the other night.
Maria Hill loves to argue...
As if to keep up the How I Met Your mother connection, this
next TV spot is aptly titled Suit Up. Hulk!? Smash!
