The Diary of a Wimpy Kid books have been very popular, if
not quite Harry Potter sized, over the years; and these films are carving a
nice niche for themselves too. Whilst the last film diverged from the book’s
story (believe it or not reminiscent of the ay that Kick Ass the film tries to
tell a “happier” version of the comic book story) and was keen to have the
family life be happier, or closer; the change was still fairly well received by
the kids, with parents seemingly appreciative of a film they could sit through
with their children, without losing the will to live.
Synopsis...
“During his summer vacation, "Wimpy Kid" Greg
Heffley, the hero of the phenomenally successful book series, hatches a plan to
pretend he has a job at a ritzy country club -- which fails to keep him away
from the season's dog days, including embarrassing mishaps at a public pool and
a camping trip that goes horribly wrong.”
Whilst the first 2 films opened in March, this one has
switched to August, which may give it a chance to jump to a higher earning
bracket. Diary of A Wimpy Kid: Dog Days opens on the 3rd of August.
