That’s the good news. The bad news is that will pretty much
rule out the hoped for return of Matthew Vaughan as director. He will,
apparently, be producing the film, but as he is busy getting ready for the
follow up to his excellent ‘X-Men: First Class’ film he won’t be directing Kick
Ass 2.
Here’s hoping we get another ‘up and coming’ quality
director for this film as the material is very, very easy to get wrong and
Vaughan, not to mention writer Jane Goldman (X-Men: First Class, The Debt) did
a very good job of getting the tone of Kick-Ass just right. As well as being a best selling comic book / graphic novel, Kick Ass made a tidy $96m from and Indie budget of $30m; and was well recieved, surprising many, by critics as well.
In the same interview (for the Daily Record) Millar also confirmed that american Jesus will also start shooting this summer. (I'd recommend reading that too.)
