Well this will do little to calm the anti 3d brigade, but
you have to say that there’s economic sense in this move. Not only is 3D a
significant draw at the global box office, but G.I Joe was facing a fight for
screens and customer sandwiched between The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark
Knight Rises. The first G.I Joe film didn’t actually make money at the box
office, so this second film, which has taken many steps to correct the matches
of the first (including an almost entirely new cast) needs to do better. The
extra draw and extra ticket price, of a 3D version of the film will certainly
help with that. Coming out just one month after Bruce Willis (Who is one of the
new co-stars of this film, alongside Dwayne Johnson) returns to screens in the
latest Die Hard film won’t hurt either.
March has proven to be a good time release big films, with
movies from Clash of The Titans to The Hunger Games demonstrating that you can make
close to or above $500m with films released at that time. It is certainly a very
late change, but at least they have given themselves long enough to create a
quality conversion; studios have surely, by now, learned the pitfalls of subpar
3D. G.I. Joe is now due on the 29th of March 2013.
Synopsis...

Productions, in association with HASBRO and di Bonaventura Pictures, commences
