It’s been a bit of a poor year as far a horror / Chiller type films have gone so far. The films with big expectations like Scream 4, Final Destination 5 and Don’t Be Afraid of The Dark have disappointed; Apollo 18 & Shark Knight 3D may have had lower expectations, but they haven’t really lived up to those either. The only real success as bee Insidious (mostly because of its tiny production costs) and even the international box office hasn’t been able to save most of those films; Final Destination 5 perhaps earning enough ‘overseas’ to see a Final Destination 6.
So we come to Dream House. Daniel Craig has had an odd year himself. Cowboys & Aliens deserved much better than it got and is in a strange place, having made a decent amount of money for a Western, but a smallish amount for a big Sci-Fi film. He should come out of it fairly well though as his performance was very good. Whilst his year is likely to end on a high with his performance in the new Adaptation of ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ likely to go down well. (based on numerous reactions to footage screened over the past month or two and the fact that it’s a David Fincher film.)
Synopsis...
“Some say that all houses have memories. For one man, his home is the place he would kill to forget. Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts and Rachel Weisz star in Dream House, a suspense thriller about a family that unknowingly moves into a home where grisly murders were committed...only to find themselves the killer's next target. Successful publisher Will Atenton (Craig) quit a high power job in Manhattan to relocate his wife, Libby (Weisz), and two girls to a quaint New England town. But as they settle into their new life, they discover their perfect home was the murder scene of a mother and her children. And the entire city believes it was at the hands of the husband who survived. When Will investigates, he's not sure if he's starting to see ghosts or if the tragic story is just hitting too close to home. His only clues come from Ann Paterson (Watts), a mysterious neighbor who knew those who were shot. And as Will and Ann piece together the haunting puzzle, they must find out who murdered the family in Will's dream house before he returns to kill again.”
So our hopes for a decent, American, chiller move on to Dream House. ...
Who is Peter Ward...
The first thing that springs to mind when looking at the poster with the two girls is "The Shining". Children in horror are really creepy! But it is nice to see actors like Craig and Weisz doing horror, I believe that it is good for them to break free from their usual "filmtypes" (I don't count either the "Mummy" or "Constantine" as horror.) IThe first film I ever saw Hugh Grant in was "The Lair of the White Worm" ...excellent film : ) But that intro to him made it strange to him as first lover in 4 W & 1 F. But you get uesd to it ha,ha. Still, I haven't seen Cvs A but my hubby did and he really liked it, so perhaps Craig should have another chance to prove his versatility in another genre.
ReplyDeleteI love the Lair of the White Worm, it was one of the first horror films I saw. That poor boy scout! :)
