O.K, O.K, let’s get the jokes about the audience retaliation
for what was a very disappointing first Joe movie out of the way shall we?
Done? Right then, whilst a fair number of people would have
found Stephen Sommers ludicrous G.I Joe film harmless fun, it is safe to say a
large number of people found it to be a pretty harmful lack of fun. Well
everyone seems to have taken note of this and, despite remaining assured that
this is a subject matter that can provide big, escapist fun, many changes have
been made in order to level up. The addition of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and
Bruce Willis is a masterstroke that at once will ratchet up the box office
appeal of this film. See what Johnson & Diesel did for the Fast &
Furious films this summer. Sure it may be a little much to expect this film to
perform a similar jump of over $260m from film to film; but I wouldn’t bet
against it either.
