I was suitably impressed by the full trailer for Prometheus,
so this UK trailer was almost overlooked. Then I noticed that it ran 16 seconds
longer than the US version, so I figured it was worth a butchers’ (London Speak
for I decided to watch the trailer guv.)
(I love the sequence below...)
What a difference. Instantly more thought provoking, more
detailed, this gives us even more of a
sense that this will be a “thinking person’s blockbuster” That elusive “intelligent
Blockbuster” That Scott has made before and that so lights up any summer movie
season. I like my popcorn flicks as much as anyone, but something like this. Oh
I am really looking forward to this.
The cast is a dream, the director is unquestionably one of
the greats (Hint if you work for James Cameron and suggest otherwise, expect to
be looking for employment elsewhere very soon after.) When he has quality
material to work with, he’s Wolverine. (That’s the best there is, at what he
does, for you non- geeks)
Synopsis...
“In the distant future, two superpowers control Earth and
fight each other for all the solar system's natural resources. When one side dispatches
a team to a distant planet to terraform it for human colonization, the team
discovers an indigenous race of bio-mechanoid killers.
Ridley Scott, director of 'Alien' and 'Blade Runner,' returns
to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking
mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of
mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of
the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of
the human race.”
I have to say the two trailers work well together. You get a sense of scale and action, but you also get a sense of good narrative, good acting and a plot worthy of the name from the two combined. There's definitely a number of similarities between what I see here and the Dark Horse Alien comics of 20 years ago. I'm not saying the story is the same at all, just some similarities.
They were right...
Here’s the US trailer again...
