The Amazing Spider-Man 2 gets a rewrite from Star Trek, Fringe & Transformers duo Kurtzman & Orci...

This is an interesting one. For many an internet “geek” these two are evil Incarnate, engendering almost as much blind hatred as Michael Bay. Personally I like them, their co-created sow Fringe is now one of the best shows on Television, their ‘reboot, that wasn’t really a reboot, of Star Trek was pretty inspired (with a few of the alleged Science fact errors actually being creative decisions of the director) and they did exactly what they were asked to do with the first Transformers film, making it appealing to both sexes and introducing the non human characters in a way that neither broke the bank, nor put off people who dreaded the idea of ‘just’ watching the robots smash things up for 2 hours. It’s that ability to introduce humour and action, whilst giving a director something else to hang onto (Whether he chooses to do so or not) that has earned them this job.

The Amazing Spider-Man...

Sony booked the date for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 way back on the 5^th of August, showing great faith in the character they continue to keep on license from Marvel. The move in fact took away Marvel Studios own preferred release date for it’s films, (Iron Man 1,2 & 3 all open(ed) on the first week of May, as will The Avengers.) It is highly unlikely that The Amazing Spider-Man will fail to a degree that a sequel isn’t viable for Sony, especially given the extra cut they get from licensed products related to the movie, but it won’t have filled them with too much cheer to see the film absent from recent lists of most anticipated films of summer 2012. The Avengers topped most lists, coming second to Snow White & The Huntsman in the female list, but The Amazing Spider-Man wasn’t placed at all.

Hotel Transylvania: Full trailer for the first movie from the creator of Samurai Jack & Dexter’s Laboratory...

I shall be honest here, if this film was described as full length animation abbot the digestive system of a King Charles Spaniel, I’d still be first in line. Genndy Tartakovsky is one of my creative heroes and has been responsible for some of the better entertainment on children’s over the past 15 years. The creator of the inspired, daring and award winning Samurai Jack (Please do NOT let Tarsem anywhere near a movie of Samurai Jack!), he also created Dexter’s Lab and has written and directed some of the best cartoons, you or your kids, will Remember. These include The Powerpuff Girls and the original series of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which was also an award winning show. Of course I’d be 10 times as excited about this film if Tartakovsky had also written it, but hopefully his style and talent as a director will elevate the film if the script isn’t p to his impeccably high standards.

Synopsis...

“Welcome to the Hotel Transylvania, Dracula's lavish five-stake resort, where monsters and their families can live it up, free to be the monsters they are without humans to bother them. On one special weekend, Dracula has invited some of the world's most famous monsters -- Frankenstein and his bride, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, a family of werewolves, and more -- to celebrate his daughter Mavis's 118th birthday. For Drac, catering to all of these legendary monsters is no problem -- but his world could come crashing down when one ordinary guy stumbles on the hotel and takes a shine to Mavis.”

The voice cast is Adam Sandler as Dracula, Andy Samberg as Jonathan, Kevin James as Frankenstein, Selena Gomez as Mavis, Steve Buscemi as Wayne & CeeLo Green as Murray the Mummy. The film rolls out this autumn. (Dates below)

G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Third Trailer blows up London...I like London!

It isn’t saying much (See Wrath of The Titans) but it does look better than the last film. OK that’s a little disingenuous, this film does the very cool thing of adding not just Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson (on a ridiculous hot streak following Fast 5 & Journey 2) but Bruce Willis as well, as the “reason we call ourselves Joes.”

Synopsis...

“A follow-up to the 2009 release of G.I. JOE: RISE OF THE COBRA, which grossed over $300M worldwide, Paramount Pictures, MGM and Skydance Productions, in association with HASBRO and di Bonaventura Pictures, commences production on G.I. JOE: RETALIATION. In this sequel, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence.”

The film stars D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park, Adrianne Palicki, Jonathan Pryce, RZA, Ray Stevenson, Channing Tatum with Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson. It rolls out on the 29^th of June In North America and a few other countries; but in a reversal of films like The Avengers, Prometheus and Battleship, it’s major international roll out doesn’t’ begin until August, as the film needs to avoid the tail end of The European Football Championships and there simply aren’t any “early” dates left.

Will this film be any better than the previous one? Well the producers’ have certainly listened to what people didn’t like too much about that movie and sought to jettison almost everything about that one and pretty much start all over. I’m betting the Johnson / Willis combination will at least give the film a chance to convince audiences that it is worth watching
