It isn’t saying much (See Wrath of The Titans) but it does
look better than the last film. OK that’s a little disingenuous, this film does
the very cool thing of adding not just Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson (on a
ridiculous hot streak following Fast 5 & Journey 2) but Bruce Willis as
well, as the “reason we call ourselves Joes.”
Synopsis...
“A follow-up to the 2009 release of G.I. JOE: RISE OF THE
COBRA, which grossed over $300M worldwide, Paramount Pictures, MGM and Skydance
Productions, in association with HASBRO and di Bonaventura Pictures, commences
production on G.I. JOE: RETALIATION. In this sequel, the G.I. Joes are not only
fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from
within the government that jeopardize their very existence.”
The film stars D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park,
Adrianne Palicki, Jonathan Pryce, RZA, Ray Stevenson, Channing Tatum with Bruce
Willis and Dwayne Johnson. It rolls out on the 29th of June In North
America and a few other countries; but in a reversal of films like The
Avengers, Prometheus and Battleship, it’s major international roll out doesn’t’
begin until August, as the film needs to avoid the tail end of The European
Football Championships and there simply aren’t any “early” dates left.
Will this film be any better than the previous one? Well the
producers’ have certainly listened to what people didn’t like too much about
that movie and sought to jettison almost everything about that one and pretty
much start all over. I’m betting the Johnson / Willis combination will at least
give the film a chance to convince audiences that it is worth watching
