As is always the case when you cast a character from a
popular work, there has been much debate and complaining about Tom Cruise being
picked to play the tall bruiser that is Jack Reacher. I always look at these
things on the outcome. Hugh Jackman has played Wolverine excellently, when the
script allows, despite being a clear foot taller than the character is meant to
be. We shall see if Cruise manages to carry this off for the majority of moviegoers
who have never heard of the character, and for the large number of people who
have. The film has been written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie (writer
of The Usual Suspects) and is now due out around Christmas 2012.
