Iron Man 3 – New TV spot shows us The Mandarin’s army of glowey eyed, ‘Extremis’, super humans...

“My fellow Americans: my soldiers will destroy your country!” That’s not a bad line to start a trailer with, even if you’re not American. I may be jumping to conclusions about the bad guys being Extremis created super humans, but anyone who has read Warren Ellis’ Extremis storyline would make the jump, given that many elements of this film’s plot are drawn from that comic. Of course it is a very fleeting glimpse, but a glimpse it is.

“Marvel's "Iron Man 3" pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. Iron Man 3 is just 2.5 weeks away from its international roll out on the 25^th, and about 4 weeks from its North American debut on the 3^rd of May. Marvel Cinematic Universe fans will not only get to see the first part of Marvel Studios Ambitions “Phase 2”, but also the long awaited appearance of The Mandarin, hinted at since the first Iron Man film in 2008.

Carrie – Full trailer for the new” reimagining” of the classic horror book & film...

Look I'm as sick s the next geek / average human with words like reimagining and reboot; and the fact that more often than they should it ends up being RETREAD. Why not just say “We’re remaking the film”, or it’s a new “ adaptation of the book”, or “it is based on the book and ‘X’ film...”? You know, like John Carpenter’s The Thing is mostly a new adaptation of the story “who goes there?”, but also has a minute nod to the first adaptation of that novella, ‘The Thing From Another World.”? Or how when we go from Sean Connery to George Lazenby, or Connery to Roger Moore, it isn't a reboot (Yes I know Casino Royale was a reboot, but it is the only one and hence earns the word) it is just a straight up transition from one actor to the next. That’s what Marvel Studios plan to do with Iron Man, and Co., when the actors move on (although the ideal replacement /successor to Downey Jnr. Ironically ruled out because he is in Iron Man 3; Guy Pearce. Yes I know he’s also too old, as he’s only a few years younger than Downey Jnr. But)...

Anyway that’s enough rambling and gibberish about peeves, onto the “reimagined” (sigh) Carrie. If for no other reason than the presence of the outstanding Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass 1& 2, Hugo) and the also awesome Julianne Moore, I actually have an interest in this film. Hopefully director Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry) can do this justice and give this generation of horror fans an experience comparable to that of those who saw the first film, back in the 1970s (and no, I am NOT that old!).

Synopsis...

“Lu Chan (Jayden Yuan) is still trying to find his place in Chen Village, the legendary town where everyone is a martial arts master…and Chen-style Tai Chi is forbidden to outsiders. But since he helped save the town from a frightening steam-powered machine, Yuniang (Angelababy), beautiful daughter of Grandmaster Chen (Tony Leung Ka-Fai), agrees to marry Lu Chan and bring him into the family.  It’s only a formality, though – she is the teacher, and he is the student – and that suits Lu Chan just fine, as the mutant horn on his head gives him incredible kung-fu power, but leaves him dumber each time, and closer to death.

Now clearly these are not films that will easily suit every type of viewer; but if you like your films a little on the strange side, or with the kind of story you only tend to get in anime  maybe you should give this a try. If not make sure you watch Detective Dee: Mystery of the Phantom Flame. That film is defiantly worth your time and has more 'mass market' appeal.

The Great Gatsby: New trailer showcases music by Beyoncé, André 3000, Lana Del Rey & Florence & The Machine...

I'm sure that the music will join with the 3D, to be a hammer for the rationalist to beat this film with; but I look forward to this film more and more each month. I've never failed to be entertained by a Baz Luhrmann film and most of them (Romeo & Juliet, Moulin Rouge, Strictly Ballroom) are amongst my favourites. Certain to be visually stunning, likely to have a soundtrack you’ll live your life to  for a few summers, and hopefully a great film will emerge as well...
