X-Men: First Class is coming...Tv Spots ahoy

Here are two TV spots (Courtesy of Marvel.com) for the rapidly approaching, and highly anticipated  prequel, reboot, reimagining same universe as Singer’s X-Men even thought the ages of the character make no sense and X-Men:Origins Wolverine appears to have been erased from history!

There’s a whole mess of stuff to get into with this movie. I’m an X-Men fan from waaaay back and think we’ve been lucky with some great entertainment from their stories. From X2, still argued to be the best super hero movie ever made and with more Subtext and allegory than there are mutants at the Xavier Academy / Institute. (I’m guessing it is not George Bush Jnr’s favourite film). Wolverine & The X-Men and the original 1990s toon are both brilliant examples of that particular medium as well. But from calling the movie First Class (The Title f a series of X-Men comics about, well the First Class, but not bothering to use that seems akin to having a film called The Bourne movie and not having Jason Bo.. Oh, Oh yeah. Ooops.

The X-Men movie Timeline is so all over the place I half expect Dr. Who, Doc Brown or Bill & Ted to turn up somewhere in the movie and stop the whole thing to give us a lecture on just how the bloody hell all of this fits in to the “not too distant Future” of X1 – X3.

Anyway that can wait for another post. I smell a poll in the air........

Did you rush out of Fast 5 & Thor and miss the endings?

Thor Fast’s sake, stay until the end!

So you’re sitting down, waiting for your latest fix of Avenger’s Movieverse building at the end of Thor; or to find out what the shocking “There’s going to be a Fast 6 and you will NEVER believe which 3 cast members are coming back for it!” teaser at the end of Fast 5, and what happens? Dozens, hundreds of people star streaming out of the cinema the second the last syllable of dialogue drops! I know Cinemas don’t help much, with the lights coming up then too (killing the 3D effect of the credits on films by the way!) and the screen cleaners staring at you, daring you to keep them waiting just one more second, but people what’s the hurry? Babysitters? Pizza? Kebab? Public Transport? Seeing if that casual, un-rebuffed, glancing of your hand on “their” leg really does mean you’ll be getting lucky tonight?

Or are you totally the other way around? You’ve patiently sat on your butt, eating overpriced food (well reasonably priced food that you snuck in, trembling with fear!) and now that the talking’s done you want to get out in the fresh(ish) air; but some lame nerds are still sitting down, making everyone take twice as long to get out of the screen. Plus they’re giving you dirty looks, or at least looks that suggest you’re some kind of mug for leaving early; but the film’s finished right?

So which are you? Are you a leave as soon as you can, or a stay right until the very end, because hundreds of people have put blood sweat and tears into making this movie and they deserve to have their names re....Oooh Keira Knightly’s back and she’s got a kid that looks nearly 10! Is that the Flying Dutchman?!............

Seriously should films just get everything over and done with before the names star rolling; or if there is anything else should it be Jackie Chan / Pixar Style, IN the credits?

There’s a Poll that’s kind of connected to this issue too, re the end of credits scene on Thor and whether Marvel Studios should just move these “bonus” scenes to the end of the action; like on The Incredible Hulk. Most people were for keeping things as they are. As of 15:00 12/05/11 we had 58.23% for keeping things as they are; and 32.91% for bringing them forward.

 

Fast Five ending mini-post

OK I’ve mentioned the Fast 5 ending a few times

without saying what happened. I’ve noticed a few people hitting the site from Google are trying to find out what happened so here ya go.............


Spoilers, obviously...


So we all know Agent Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) is not going to stop looking for Dom (Vin Diesel) & Brian (Paul Walker). An agent walks over to Hobbs and, first ‘shock’ it is Customs Agent Monica Fuentes (Eva Mendes) from 2 Fast, 2 Furious

(effectively completing the Fast reunion). She brings over a file on a Hijacking of a military convoy in Berlin. Hobbs states that if it didn’t involve Brian or Dom he was (again) not interested. Fuentes says that he WILL be interested in this and shows him a picture from the hijack: It appears to be Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez). Strongly suggesting that she didn’t die in Fast & Furious (Film 4) and officially completing the Fast & Furious series reunion party!
Cue cries of “BUT SHE IS SOOOOOO DEAD!”

The End of End Credits posts! OR The best after credits scenes

So to complete my trilogy of after credits posts I’m looking at my favourite post credits scenes and a little at the history of them. Of course I’d like to know what peoples’ favourite post credits’ scenes are. I’m not thinking of the “out takes” of the kind you find at the end of Jackie Chan Movies, Cannonball Run and Pixar films. (I have to say one of my favourite parts of any movie happen in the outtakes section of Rush Hour 2. Where the bad guy has just fallen to his death from a suitably high height; Carter (Chris Tucker) is meant to say something along the lines of “You know he’s dead”; instead he drops the killer quip “you know he’s not gonna be in Rush Hour 3!” Almost as funny is watching Chan, ever the professional, getting ready to act his line and seeing the moment he gets what Tucker just said.)

Anyway enough of that, I’m thinking more along the lines of the ending for POTC: At World’s End, where Elizabeth Swan (Turner) and her kiddie walking to the shore to meet Will Turner, 10 years after Will has become Captain of the Dutchman and is now allowed back on land, for cuddles and such. Or POTC: The Curse of The Black Pearl, in which the Monkey steals back a cursed coin after the credits. That set the scene for the undead, (or alive dead?) simian to return to annoy Jack in POTC: Dead Man’s Chest! (The end of that film had a less important, but amusing shot of the key dog as new king of Cannibal Island. It remains to be seen whether the At World’s End teaser will ever lead to an actual movie.  With  Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides about to be released, with the promise of yet another big teaser after the credits (apparently setting a probable course for a fifth Pirates movie)   it feels about right  to be looking at the best of these little bonuses.

But what started it all? Well it really got going in the 1980s. (Not saying it never happened before then, just that it moved on) While Jackie Chan was heading back to Hong Kong with a really cool idea he’d gotten from working on The Cannonball Run (putting in the best bloopers and near death experiences from the film during the end credits) Young Sherlock Holmes (1985) andFerris Bueller’s Day Off (1986) had excellent post endings.  In Holmes we got to see that the villain had survived and was now using the name Moriarty! (Shame we never got to see that sequel). Ferris Bueller looks into the camera and says...

“You’re still here? It’s over, go home. Go.”

Then of course we’ve got the infamous endings to the current number 2 and 3 biggest movies of 2011; and Thor. Not only did Fast 5 get the jump on Thor’s being the “official” Summer season opener by making stupid money a week before Thor opened, but it took a run at Marvel Studios’ now legendary Marvel Movieverse “Easter Eggs”, with a massive teaser scene for Fast 6 at the end of its credits.  It’s a pretty big scene, featuring 3 characters from Fast & Furious movies all of whom would be big news if they were in Fast 6, but one in particular that no one would have seen coming.

But for me the ending to Thor is my favourite. The revelation about a certain character being a major threat in The Avengers, mind control, or at least subtle mental, manipulation, an item from Captain America and more Nick Fury Director of S.H.I.E.L.D is just too much for it not to be a favourite of mine.
