UPDATED The Wolverine will take on the Phineas & Ferb movie on the 26th of July 2013...

Deadline is reporting an exclusive that will probably surprise few people. With the ongoing chaos that resulted from the tragic aftermath of the Tsunami earlier this year; and continuing weather related and natural problems the start date for The Wolverine never got officially pinned down. However, with the film scheduled for a summer 2012 release the film was always meant to have begun production by now.

Hugh Jackman began his training program for the film several months ago, based on the extra muscle that original director, Darren Aronofsky, felt the character required. But personal issues and the location delays, caused Aronofsky to leave the film in March. A new director, 3:10 to Yuma helmer James Mangold, was appointed in June; however ongoing issues in Japan meant that filming still hasn’t started.

The Wolverine has a director again; and it is...

The screenplay has been written by Christopher McQuarrie (Usual Suspects, Valkyrie) and is based upon the classic “Wolverine” story arc By Chris Claremont & Frank Miller. It is set almost exclusively in Japan although it has recently been announced that at least part of the movie would film in Canada: Whether that will remain the case, or indeed if the whole film will now be filmed there, remains to be seen.

Hugh Jackman will now complete filming the big screen version of Les Miserable before work begins on The Wolverine in spring 2012 for what we can only assume is a Summer 2013 release. Summer 2013 will kick off with a Marvel Studios super hero movie, Iron Man 3, have Warner Brothers Man of Steel and Marvel Studios’ Thor 2 as well.
