So last week Sony scheduled a sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man for the 2nd of May 2014. (Yes that’s a sequel to the Spider-Man film that hasn’t even finished filming yet)

I pointed out that what they did was steal the coveted first weekend in May slot from Marvel Studios. They have had Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and Thor (Their three most successful films so far) all open on that weekend. Marvel Studios also has the first weekend in May 2012 for The Avengers and the first weekend of May 2013 set for Iron Man  3. But it seems the decision to wait until they knew which films would be made for 2014 (Front runners at the mo are The Incredible Hulk 2 (Planet Hulk please), The Black Panther (Currently being written by Mark Baily) Ant Man (Edgar Wright is set to  direct) Nick Fury Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D and /  or Black Widow & Hawkeye. (Or of course a S.H.I.E.L.D movie featuring Fury (Samuel L Jackson, Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner ), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) & Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) all together. There's also Captain America 2 (it seems likely given the film is doing  well overseas and the film already has $249m; and an outside chance of Luke Cage: Power Man (From whence Nicolas Cage took his last name) / Heroes for Hire.) has cost them the top Super Hero  weekend.

Well to make sure they don’t get caught out again and secure prime summer real estate Marvel Studios has snatched the 16th of May 2014 and the 27th of June 2014 for untitled, likely unknown, projects. Given the 27th of June is the weekend before the 4t of July Friday I’m going to recklessly speculate that it has to be for an Avengers sequel.
