Since Noam Munro left the film to direct 300: Battle Of Artemisia Die Hard has stalled a little. According to Deadline 20th Century Fox have come up with a short list of potential directors for the film, which has been written by Skip Woods. Woods has a somewhat chequered bibliography having written Swordfish, X-Men: Origins: Wolverine, The A-Team & Hitman. (Although not all of those were stories he came up with.)
Joe Cornish may be the biggest surprise on the list because he has only one feature directing credit; the critically well received Attack The Block. That would of course mean he would be a relatively cheap, but a less cynical view is that he would bring a fresh style to the film Also on the list are Justin Lin (Fast 5) but he would seem to be very filly booked with Fast 5 on the horizon and the director’s chair lined up for the next Terminator film, when that finally gets going. There’s also Nicolas Winding Refn (Bronson) and John Moore (The Omen (2006, Max Payne).
Joe Cornish is clearly going on to bigger and better things, as well as directing Attack the Block he has co written Marvel Studios’ Ant Man and Spielberg & Jackson’s Tintin. That said it would be interesting to see what he could do with a Die Hard film, I’d be far more interested if he was writer director to be honest. Justin Lin has certainly proven that he can take the most ridiculous and large scale action scenes and make them fun and exciting to watch. I’m sure there’s many who would be interested to see what the director of Bronson & Valhalla Rising could do with such a mainstream, iconic action series as Die hard too. It’s harder to make a case for Moore as he doesn’t seem to have the ability to elevate an ordinary script into a better movie experience.
Die Hard 5 is set to film in Russia and is still scheduled for a 2012 release.

Well I'll be darned!!! A fifth film, what about that. Enough with the us-expression, however I must say that I'm surprised that they are pressing on with this film. I actually thought about it the other day when for a moment I had a vision of of Die Hard 7, and I seriously hope that this is the last one. Don't get me wrong, I really like Bruce Willis. The fifth element is one of my absolute favourites and I still think Die Hard 1 is a great CHRISTMAS film. But why?????Why are they doing this!? This is as bad as the follow-ups on Narnia. ( I really detested the last one, yeah I know why did I see it then huh!)
ReplyDeleteLol. I'm a big fan of Die Hard (This IS Christmas music) and I think the Bruce Willis - Samuel L Jackson combo in Die Hard 3 was hilarious. But yes it does seem to have run its course. A building - an airport - a city - a country - the last step has to be the world; which, with it being set in Russia it appears they may be going to that extreme. What then? Bruce gets frozen and woken up in the future to die hard across the solar system?
